It is very common problem seen that the allocated space for the system drive(most commonly C: drive) is insufficient to install more number of software because system drive may run out of memory! And this is very true with latest versions of Windows. Windows Xp used to take very less Memory on the drive but Windows 7, 8 and windows 10 will certainly take more space with lots of daily updates. Then, what to do? Shall we install our remaining program to another drive? No, not at all! if we do so then everything will be messy! So, lets see then how to extend our C drive by taking extra empty space from other drives.
CASE STUDY: As you can see in the screenshot below that my system drive has only 3.41 GB free of 46 GB and marked with red color! Now I am going to extend it to 92 GB by adding some space from other drive by using a tool called MINITOOL PARTITION WIZARD HOME ADDITION V8.1.1 click here to download.
Why am I using this tool instead there is inbuilt features in windows to extend my drive? Simple answer- windows provides extending feature only when the adjacent drive is free! but by using this tool we can use non adjacent drive's free space too!
Now i think it is better to start our work:
Step 1: Download MINITOOL PARTITION WIZARD HOME ADDITION V8.1.1 and install it.
Step 2: Double Click on the icon and you will see the following screen:
Step 3: Now choose C drive from the disk lists and on left-side panel there is an extend partition option click on it.
step 4: you will see the following screen:
This is the most important step. Chose any drive from the drop down menu from which you want to take the free space.
and the slide control allows you to choose the amount of space to be added.( here i am taking space from my D drive because of my own reason but you can choose any drive)
Step 5: Click on OK! And at the top-left corner click on apply option. Then your C drive will be extended without formatting!
Note: It is always a good habit of making a backup of your drive from which you are taking free memory space before proceeding. So, take precautionary action yourself to avoid any data loss!
Thank you!
